history

Lustadt is one of the oldest settlements in the district of Germersheim . The place was first mentioned in a document in 773 in the Lorsch Codex on the occasion of the donation of two acres of land in pago spirensi (in Speyergau) in Lustater marca (in the Lustadt district) to the Lorsch monastery .

The Heimbach Commandery stood between Zeiskam and Lustadt , a large medieval cloister of the Johanniter , later the Order of Malta, with a dominant influence on the region. The complex including the church was destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525 . The Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius in Niederlustadt, a remarkable late Gothic building from 1510, dates from the same century .

In the course of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the two communities Niederlustadt and Oberlustadt were merged to form the new community Lustadt with effect from June 7, 1969 .
