Vincentius Hospital

The Vinzentius Hospital Landau is a hospital in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Landau . It has 399 beds, 10 specialist clinics and four certified medical centers (intestinal, trauma, perinatal and diabetes center). In the TraumaNetzwerkD of the DGU , the Vinzentius Hospital Landau - in addition to the BG Klinik Ludwigshafen as a supraregional trauma center - takes care of the seriously injured in the region.

history

In 1888 a nurses' house - the “Vinzentius Stift” - was built on the site of today's Vinzentius Hospital. The namesake of the monastery and hospital is Vinzenz von Paul (born April 24, 1581 in Pouy, southern France, † September 27, 1660), who as a priest took care of the poor, sick and those in need and had volunteers visit them. The care of the needy by volunteers was something completely new at the time.

Financed by a wealthy woman from Landau, the "Vinzentius-Stift" initially housed a toddler school, a girls' work school and some sister rooms. Together with the surgeon Karl Hugel, Ernst Maxon built a hospital, which began in 1898. In 1901 a new building with 35 hospital beds was completed and opened. The building was financed by the St. Vinzentius charity. From 1929 the Diocese of Speyer participated in the further expansion of the hospital. The “ Poor Franciscan Sisters of the Holy Family ”, founded by Pastor Paul Josef Nardini in Pirmasens in 1855, took care of the sick . Until May 31, 2008, Sisters of the Order performed their daily duties in the Vinzentius Hospital.

Towards the end of the Second World War in 1945, the hospital was badly damaged. In the course of continuous reconstruction, the hospital was converted into a hospital with main departments in 1947 . The range of services at the Vinzentius Hospital was gradually expanded to include various specialist medical departments and centers, as well as the children's clinic , which was built in 1971 . In 2006 the perinatal center of the clinics for pediatric and adolescent medicine , gynecology and obstetrics was set up to ensure optimal pregnancy , obstetrics and postnatal care for mother and child. In 2007 the diabetes center and foot clinic were certified according to the guidelines of the German Diabetes Society , and in 2008 they were certified as a regional trauma center according to the guidelines of the German Society for Trauma Surgery . In 2009 an interdisciplinary intestinal center was opened , which is made up of gastroenterologists , oncologists , anesthetists , pathologists , radiologists and radiation therapists.

Since 2005 the Caritas Trägergesellschaft Saarbrücken mbH (cts) has been responsible for the management of the hospital; the episcopal chair in Speyer transferred the responsibility to Vinzentius-Krankenhaus Landau GmbH in 2009.
