Queichheim is a district of Landau in der Pfalz in Rhineland-Palatinate . In 2011 (population with main residence as of December 31) it had a total of 3430 inhabitants, making it the largest district in terms of population. Until 1937 it was an independent municipality.
geography
Queichheim is located immediately to the east of the city center, with which it has now grown structurally. The eponymous Queich runs to the north and the Birnbach to the south , which flows into the former from the right on the eastern edge of the village. The area of the previous parish was 793.93 hectares . The current district area of the district is 581.16 hectares.
history
Queichheim was probably founded by a Franconian named Cogich, Cogin or Cogo, as old manuscripts of Weißenburg Abbey from the 7th century always refer to a Cogichheim or Cogisheim . With a probability bordering on certainty, this name meant today's Queichheim.
Finds of stone coffins that were made during the excavation of the excavation pit for the Protestant church in 1769 suggest a settlement in the Merovingian period from the 7th to 8th centuries . Later, the name mentioned above, which was of no importance to the residents, presumably changed to Queichheim - "Village on the Queich".
The oldest document records the donation of the Daumühlen near Queichheim by the Bishop of Speyer Guntram to the Hördt monastery . A hundred years later a Diether von Queichheim had a castle in the village. Until 1274 the emerging Landau belonged to the parish Queichheim. During the early modern period, the place fell to France .
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Gommersheim was incorporated into the canton of Landau . In 1814 the place had a total of 575 inhabitants. A year later it was added to Austria . Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 the community belonged to the Landau Landau commissioner ; from this the district office of Landau emerged.
On April 1, 1937, the previously independent community Queichheim was incorporated together with the neighboring Mörlheim to Landau in the Palatinate, with which it left the district office of the same name.
