Godramstein is a district of Landau in the Palatinate . Until 1972 it was an independent municipality.

location

Godramstein is located northwest of the Landau core town in the Weinstrasse region . The Queich , which runs in a west-east direction, touches the southern edge of the settlement. Godramstein also has a forest enclave in the Palatinate Forest, which has been part of the Landau City Forest since 1972 . This is traversed by the Eußerbach and the Dörenbach , which flows into the former from the right. the 545.3 meter high Armbrunnenkopf and the western flank of the 518.2 meter high Meisenhorn rise within the forest enclave .

history

It was first mentioned on the occasion of a donation to Lorsch Abbey in 766 as "Godmarstaine" in a document from the Lorsch Codex .

The "Godramsteiner Aren" (= altars, god stones) indicate that they existed as early as Roman times. Conjectures even suggest a settlement in the Bronze Age by the Celts. The name can be derived either from "Godemar", a Frankish immigrant, or from the finds of seven deities on a stone and a table with six figures of gods ("gods on the stone").

In the Middle Ages , property rights of the monasteries Lorsch, Weißenburg and Hornbach can be documented. Rudolf von Habsburg granted the place rights and freedoms of an imperial village in 1285 . Godramstein fell to the Electoral Palatinate in 1371 , where the place remained until the end of the 18th century and within which he was subordinate to the Oberamt Germersheim .

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Godramstein was incorporated into the canton of Annweiler and was subordinate to the Mairie Siebeldingen . In 1815 the community had a total of 1281 inhabitants. In the same year, Austria was struck. Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . In 1817 the community moved to the canton of Landau . From 1818 to 1862 Impflingen was a member of the Landau Landau inspectorate ; from this the district office of Landau emerged.

In 1938 the place was incorporated into the Landau district. After the Second World War , Arzheim became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , the place changed to the newly created Landau-Bad Bergzabern district on June 7, 1969 . Just three years later, on April 22, 1972, it was incorporated into the independent city of Landau in the Palatinate .
