history

Niederhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1238. The place was definitely settled in Roman times , which has been proven by finds. Niederhausen fell to the County of Veldenz in 1129 , belonged to the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken from 1444 and became part of the Electoral Palatinate in 1768 .

During the French Revolution , the village was annexed to France from 1795 to 1814 . After the Congress of Vienna (May 28, 1815) Niederhausen became part of Prussia . Boundary stones that separated the Kingdom of Prussia from the Kingdom of Bavaria can still be seen on the southern boundary of the district. The Kingdom's largest investment in Niederhausen was the establishment of the Royal Prussian wine-growing domain Niederhausen-Schloßböckelheim at the beginning of the 20th century.

Economy and Infrastructure

Niederhausen locations

The structure in Niederhausen is essentially shaped by viticulture , 12 individual layers are spread over approx. 120 hectares of vineyards. One of the most famous companies was the Royal Prussian wine-growing domain Niederhausen-Schloßböckelheim . It promoted viticulture as early as the 19th century, especially against the massive occurrence of phylloxera introduced from America and the increased occurrence of fungal pests. The wine-growing domain strengthened the Nahe wines, which were often sold under external names such as "Rüdesheimer" or " Rheinwein " due to a lack of independence .

In the years 1926 to 1928, the Wasserkraftwerke Niederhausen GmbH built the Niederhausen reservoir in the immediate vicinity of the village . The weir , which consists of three fields near the former train station, accumulates the water so that the water flows to the power station in a 760 m long canal. The Schmittenstollen visitor mine is located near the hydroelectric power station , where mercury was mined in the past until 1942 . For more mining relics in the district, see list of mines in the Palatinate .

traffic

Niederhausen is located on the Nahe Valley Railway Bingen - Saarbrücken. The trains pass the place without stopping.
