history
The history of the Oberstreit settlement goes back to Roman times. On October 23, 1305 Oberstreit was first mentioned as "Ebenstryt" in a document from Abbot Werner vom Disibodenberg as a farm whose owner (Jakob von Ebenstrit) donated it to the Disibodenberg monastery .
The place was later divided into two domains, bounded by the brook: the northern half belonged to Waldböckelheim , the southern half to Staudernheim . This dichotomy was also manifested in the local coat of arms, which in one half shows the fish from the coat of arms of the Counts of Salm , and in the other half the coat of arms of the Counts of Churpfalz .
In the area of today's cemetery (mentioned in a document in 1491) there was a chapel consecrated to St. Bartholomew, which was probably a great attraction for pilgrimages.
According to the school chronicle, 190 inhabitants were counted in the census on December 1, 1885, broken down in detail:
- Gender: 98 male, 92 female
- Denomination: Catholic 152, Protestant 36, Jewish 3

Culture and tourism
The Oberstreiter Markt (so-called Kirb), which takes place every year in September during the parish fair of the Bartholomäus chapel (no longer exists today), was first mentioned in 1570 and attracted up to 10,000 visitors with all the consequences. On August 24, 1687, the Oberamtmann Pawal von Rammingen reported of "[frivolous] opulence and [godless] being with dancing, eating, drinking and fighting on the so-called Oberstreiter Kirb". The school chronicle confirms these impressions: “Fights happened very often; use was also made of knives and rifles ”. The chronicler ascribes this to the “fiery Nahe wine”. At the end of the 18th century, Schinderhannes, who is known throughout the region, and his gang were up to mischief on the Oberstreiter Markt and shot a number of French soldiers there. The villagers were never hurt a hair, as they evidently often offered refuge to the evildoers, which according to the school chronicle "was more of a fear". The visitor numbers from the 16th century are no longer matched by the annual fair.
In particular, guests who stay in Bad Sobernheim for a cure or relaxation often stay in Oberstreit today because of the village idyll and the close proximity to the spa town of Bad Sobernheim. The proximity to regional attractions of the Nahe region and the connection to the network of hiking trails also contribute to the tourist attraction of the municipality.
