Flora and vegetation
The steep slopes and valleys near Schloßböckelheim, which are worth protecting, are among the most scenic and botanically interesting areas of the middle Nahe valley. Rock corridors, steppe lawns and dry bushes on igneous ground. Remnants of an alluvial forest on the banks of the Nahe determine the natural vegetation around Schloßböckelheim. Viticulture also shapes the landscape.
The subcontinental plants exist in the Nahe valley on the western border, the sub-Mediterranean species on the northern border of their distribution areas. In the Nahe valley, plant communities with heat-loving species colonize stony and rocky rock slopes that are particularly exposed to the southwest. Together with the “Nahegau” nature reserve, Schloßböckelheim has unique, rare and valuable biotopes between Heimberg and Schäferberg. The nature reserve is part of the steep, rocky south-east slope north of the Nahe.
Due to its special vegetation, this landscape around Heimberg, Schäferberg and Felsenberg is compared with areas of central Italy or Dalmatia and the rocky, tree-poor steppe heaths and maquis typical there .
history
The old forms of name for Wald-, Schloß- and Talböckelheim are traced back to a "uilla Beccchilenheim", which is handed down in a document from 824. Emperor Heinrich IV was briefly arrested in the place by his son, who later became Heinrich V. The name Schloßböckelheim did not appear until the 17th century. In the 19th century the name Thalböckelheim caught on. In 1910 the local council agreed to introduce the name Schloßböckelheim. The historical significance of Schloßböckelheim and the fact that Schloßböckelheim was already well known in viticulture and the wine trade at the turn of the last century were cited as important reasons for the name change. A decree of April 1911 approved the municipality's application. Since then, the two districts Thalböckelheim and Schloßböckelheim have been united under the uniform place name "Schloßböckelheim".
In Schloßböckelheim, Schinderhannes committed a robbery on June 30, 1800, which became known as the Boot Battle .
