Reiffelbach is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Nahe-Glan .
geography
The clustered village is located on the Reiffelbach stream of the same name, east of the Glan in the North Palatinate Bergland . To the north are Meisenheim and Callbach , east Schmittweiler , south Becherbach and west is Odenbach .
history
The Reiffelbach settlement was first mentioned in 1293 in a document from Count Heinrich I von Veldenz for the knight Eberhard von Odenbach , who owned a third of the tithe to Reiffelbach as a Veldenzer fief . The Knights of Odenbach were also the owners of the tithe in Reiffelbach in the 14th century. In a feud letter from Dietz von Wachenheim to the city of Worms , which was probably written around or before 1383, a Peter von Ryffelbach was named among his numerous noble helpers. In another feud against Worms from 1389, Frank von Ryffelbach appears. In the 15th century the noblemen Lyfried von Heppenheim inherited the Odenbach fief with the Reiffelbach tithe. The church with the Holy Cross patronage and the village of Reiffelbach were mentioned for the first time in a Seelgerät foundation from Henne Lifrid von Heppenheim in 1401 . The church, which was probably preceded by a different chapel as its predecessor, was a branch of the Meisenheim parish and was looked after by the Johannitern der Meisenheimer Kommende . The current church in Reiffelbach dates from 1849.
After the Congress of Vienna , Reiffelbach belonged to the Rhine District in the Kingdom of Bavaria , where it remained until the end of the Second World War . During the administrative reform of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1969, Reiffelbach was reclassified from the Kusel district to the Bad Kreuznach district. From an ecclesiastical point of view, Reiffelbach still belongs to the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate and to the Diocese of Speyer .
- Place name
The settlement name is formed from the basic word Bach and the Old High German personal name Rîfilo , a diminutive of the name Rîfo or Hrîffo , which translates as "hoarfrost", "dew". The place name means "brook of the Rîfilo".
