Odenbach is a municipality in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Kusel . It belongs to the Lauterecken-Wolfstein association.
geography
The place is at the confluence of the Odenbach of the same name in the Glan in the North Palatinate Bergland . Meisenheim ( Bad Kreuznach district ) is to the northeast , Adenbach to the south and Medard to the southwest .
Odenbach to include the residential places Dämmerhof, Hott Bush, the imperial court and the Bahnwärterhaus Viermorgen.
history
Celtic graves and Roman finds were discovered in the area. On May 20, 841, Odenbach itself was first mentioned in a document. The place belonged to the county of Veldenz before it came to Pfalz-Zweibrücken in 1444 . Duke Johann I released the residents of Odenbach and some surrounding villages from serfdom in 1579 . The community of Odenbach was evidently called Odinbach in the Middle Ages.
Odenbach has belonged to the Lauterecken community since 1971, and to the Lauterecken-Wolfstein community since July 1, 2014 .

Municipal council
The local council in Odenbach consists of twelve council members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a personalized proportional representation ("Freie Liste Becker" and "SPD-Liste"), and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Helga Becker became the local mayor of Odenbach on July 22, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, she was elected for five years with 79.90% of the vote. Her predecessor was Gerhard Gins.
Culture and sights
The remains of the Weiherturm, ruins of a moated castle from the 12th century, Burg Odenbach , are considered to be the landmark of Odenbach.
The town hall dates from 1570 and is still used today in its original function.
The stone arch bridge over the Odenbach was built in 1748 and largely rebuilt in 2018. Essential structural (arch) and historical elements (bridge stone) were preserved.
The listed former synagogue from 1752 is decorated with late Baroque wall paintings, the Jewish cemetery has existed since 1850.

The “Palatinate High Trail” (112 km in total) runs along the ridge to the northwest of Odenbach.
Every year on the third weekend in August the five-day fair (Kerwe) takes place.
Every year there is a St. Martin's parade on November 11th and a Christmas market on the 1st of Advent in the town center.
Economy and Infrastructure
In Odenbach there is a day care center with three groups and a total of 60 places (children under 3 and over 3 and all-day places). The catchment communities for the day care center, which is sponsored by the local community, are Odenbach and the neighboring towns of Adenbach, Ginsweiler and Medard.
The federal highway 420 runs through the village . Odenbach was connected to the railway network in 1896 by opening a train station on the Lauterecken - Odernheim line, which was built as a direct continuation of the Lauter Valley Railway. In 1904, this section merged with the Glantalbahn , which was fully opened that year , but has since been closed. In the nearby Lauterecken is a train station of the Lautertalbahn .
Odenbach has a volunteer fire brigade (focus brigade ) sponsored by VG Lauterecken-Wolfstein. There is also a youth fire brigade and an elderly community.
The lively bike-draisine route-Glantal leads over 40 km through the lower Glantal and thus through the Palatinate Uplands. The tour leads on the disused railway line from Altenglan via Lauterecken - Odenbach - Meisenheim to Staudernheim.
In July 2019 there were a total of 16 associations and a number of different small businesses in the municipality.
The former primary school "Birkenhof" is now privately owned, the former school gym is now used as a sports and event hall.
There are two meetinghouses, one sponsored by the Protestant church RLP and one sponsored by the local / association community.
