Altenkirchen ( pronunciation ^?^/^I ) is a municipality in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Upper Glantal .

geography

Altenkirchen, like the neighboring communities of Dittweiler and Frohnhofen, is in the Kohlbachtal in the West Palatinate .

history

Altenkirchen (also called Alekeije by its residents ) was first mentioned in a document in 1290. The kerwe (parish fair ) , which is celebrated annually on the first Sunday in October, dates back to 1839.

The council in Altenkirchen consists of 16 council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
