Ehweiler is a municipality in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Kusel-Altenglan .
geography
Today the agricultural community of Ehweiler is 320 meters above sea level and consists of around 35 hectares of forest.
history
The village was first mentioned in 1316 as Eygewilre .
As part of the Remigiusland and belonging to the county of Veldenz , the place fell to the newly formed county of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , whose fate Ehweiler now shared, with the extinction of their male line in 1444 .
Ehweiler suffered significant population losses several times. Three waves of plague in the years 1583, 1597 and 1613 are recorded. In the plague year of 1583 alone, 34 people died, and thus around half of the villagers at that time. Subsequently, both the Thirty Years' War and the Palatinate War of Succession led to severe devastation in the 17th century . But there was also the immigration of new families, which caused the population to grow again.
From 1801 to 1814 Ehweiler belonged to France as part of the Saardepartement , Arrondissement Birkenfeld , Canton and Marie Kusel. At the Congress of Vienna , the Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine fell to Austria in 1815 and to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 on the basis of an exchange contract . Ehweiler was assigned to the Kusel Land Commissioner in the Bavarian Rhine District.
After the Second World War , Ehweiler became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place was assigned to the Kusel Association in 1972 , which was merged into the Kusel-Altenglan Association in 2018 .
