Bedesbach is a local community and a state-approved resort in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . Bedesbach is part of the Kusel-Altenglan community , within which it is the sixth largest local community in terms of population.
geography
location
The place is near Kusel in the North Palatinate Bergland and its sub-area Potzberg-Königsberg-Gruppe in the so-called Musikantenland within the West Palatinate . The Sulzbacher Hof residential area also belongs to Bedesbach . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Ulmet , Welchweiler , Altenglan and Erdesbach .
Elevations and waters
The Glan forms the western boundary of the district. From the right , the 2.4-kilometer-long Sulzbach flows into this , which flows in an east-west direction through the middle of the settlement area and is located along its entire length within the municipality. The 369 meter high Hohenestel rises in the southeast of the municipality .
history
Bedesbach was first mentioned in a document in 1364. It belonged to the county of Veldenz and later to Pfalz-Zweibrücken .
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , the place was incorporated into the canton of Wolfstein . In 1815 Bedesbach first belonged to Austria . After the Congress of Vienna , it was added to Bavaria a year later . From 1818 to 1862 the community continued to belong to the canton of Wolfstein and was part of the Kusel Land Commissioner , which was then converted into a district office.
In 1939 the place was incorporated into the Kusel district. After the Second World War , Bedesbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , the community became part of the Altenglan community in 1972 . The place has belonged to the Kusel-Altenglan community since 2018 .

Municipal council
The council in Bedesbach consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

In 2009 Peter Koch became mayor of Bedesbach. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of 84.32% of the votes. His predecessor in office was Jürgen Hahn.
Culture and sights
Cultural monuments
There are a total of two objects on site that are under monument protection , including the old village smithy. This now functions as a museum in which the original furnishings are shown.
Other structures
The former schoolhouse was renovated in 2002 and serves as a village community center. Bats of the species Great Mouse-eared Mouse , the largest species in Germany, have nested in the attic .

There is a quarry in the southern municipality. In addition, after the Second World War there was temporarily a NATO tank farm nearby .
traffic
The place is close to the B 420 , which runs through the neighboring town of Patersbach . From this the district road 36 , which runs through the local community, branches off to Welchweiler . The A 62 is in the south . In Altenglan there is a train station on the Landstuhl – Kusel railway line . Bedesbach himself owned a train station from 1904 on the now closed Glantalbahn , which now serves as a draisine station. Passenger traffic ended in 1985, freight traffic four years later.

The Glan-Blies cycle path runs through Bedesbach . To the east of the community district which lies at 399 meters above sea level and the Bedesbacher Ortsgruppedes is Palatine Forest Club maintained Hohenestel Hut . In their immediate vicinity there was once a now lost observation tower.
