Etschberg is a municipality in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Kusel-Altenglan .
geography
Etschberg is located in the Kuseler Musikantenland in the West Palatinate on a slope of the Odersberg. The Glan flows to the east .
To Etschberg includes the residential places Lindenhof and homestead stroke Leidsthalerhube.
history
The village was first mentioned as Etzberg in 1364 .
Initially belonging to the county of Veldenz , the place fell to the newly formed county of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , whose fate was now shared by Etschberg, when its male line was extinguished in 1444 .
Like the other villages in the area, Etschberg was hit several times by wars in the 17th century. Only a few residents survived the Thirty Years' War , and the village was also described as "burned" in 1775 during the wars of the French King Louis XIV , which culminated in the War of the Palatinate Succession . With the immigration of young families, things picked up again, and finally, in the 18th century, population growth began.
From 1801 to 1814 Etschberg belonged to France as part of the Saardepartement , Arrondissement Birkenfeld , Canton Kusel, Mairie Quirnbach. At the Congress of Vienna , the Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine fell to Austria in 1815 and to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 on the basis of an exchange contract . The place has now been assigned to the Land Commissioner and Mayor's Office Kusel in the Bavarian Rhine District.
Even before that, it was more strongly influenced by handicrafts than many neighboring towns, but Etschberg developed into a workers' village and from the 19th century to the beginning of the Second World War also into a village of traveling musicians , whereas nowadays it is more of a residential community from which many commuters go to work outside of Germany.
After the war, Etschberg became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place was assigned to the Kusel Association in 1972 , which was merged into the Kusel-Altenglan Association in 2018 .
