About this picture

Blaubach in West Palatinate is a municipality in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Kusel-Altenglan .

geography

Blaubach is located above Kusel in the Blaubachtal on the edge of the Saar-Nahe mountainous region .

The Rothengründerhof residential area also belongs to Blaubach .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1436 in an interest book of the Remigiusberg monastery.

Initially belonging to the County of Veldenz , the place fell to the newly formed County of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , whose further fate Blaubach now shared, with the extinction of its male line in 1444 . In 1480 there are four taxable families, which indicates about 20, maximum 40 residents.

In the centuries that followed, Blaubach did not initially expand as it suffered significant population losses several times, which were subsequently offset by immigration. The plague claimed numerous lives, especially in 1574 and 1597. Subsequently, both the Thirty Years' War and the Palatinate War of Succession caused severe devastation and victims in the 17th century . After the Thirty Years' War, only the names of two previously resident families can be found in the church register, all the others are new.

In the 18th century, the population began to grow steadily, despite the fact that they emigrated to America at the same time.

From 1801 to 1814 Blaubach belonged to France as part of the Saardepartement , Arrondissement Birkenfeld , Canton and Marie Kusel. At the Congress of Vienna , the Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine fell to Austria in 1815 and to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 on the basis of an exchange contract . The place has now been assigned to the Kusel Land Commissioner in the Bavarian Rhine District.

A significant structural change began in the 19th century. Blaubach increasingly developed from a farming village into a purely residential area. In 1882 95% of the population lived from agriculture, in 1937 it was 40%, in 1975 only 2.5%.

After the Second World War , Blaubach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place was assigned to the Kusel Association in 1972 , which was merged into the Kusel-Altenglan Association in 2018 .
