The place is in the Reichenbachtal in the Kuseler Musikantenland in the West Palatinate . To the north is Niederstaufenbach , southeast Reichenbach-Steegen and southwest is Neunkirchen am Potzberg .

The Birkenhof residential area also belongs to Oberstaufenbach .

Thomas Andes became the local mayor of Oberstaufenbach on July 4, 2019. Since there was no candidate in the direct election on May 26, 2019, the upcoming election was carried out by the council in accordance with the municipal regulations. This unanimously decided in favor of Andes.

Andes' predecessors were Eckhard Schneidereit, who was also elected by the council in 2016, Nicole Fleischer until she left the community on October 31, 2015, and Wilhelm Junk until 2014.
