Reichenbach-Steegen is a municipality in the Kaiserslautern district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Weilerbach .
The current local congregation emerged from 1969 to 1976 from four formerly independent congregations. Since then, these have formed the districts of Reichenbach-Steegen: Reichenbach , Reichenbachsteegen , Albersbach and Fockenberg-Limbach .
Geographical location
Reichenbach-Steegen is located 13 km northwest of Kaiserslautern .
history
The individual districts have their own history. The first documentary mention of Reichenbachsteegen in 1269, and of Albersbach and Fockenberg-Limbach in 1393. Reichenbach can look back on more than 1000 years of history with a first documentary mention from the year 945.
The community was formed on June 7, 1969 from the communities Reichenbach and Reichenbachsteegen. On March 16, 1974, Albersbach was incorporated. Fockenberg-Limbach was added on July 24, 1976.

In 2012, 56.1 percent of the population were Protestant and 27.9 percent Catholic. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational. The Catholics belong to the Diocese of Speyer , the Evangelicals to the Protestant Church of the Palatinate .

The municipal council in Reichenbach-Steegen consists of 16 council members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a personalized proportional representation, and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Dirk Wagner (SPD) is the local mayor of Reichenbach-Steegen. In a runoff election on June 16, 2019, he was re-elected with 50.40% of the vote after none of the original three candidates had achieved the necessary majority in the direct election on May 26, 2019.
