Sulzbachtal is a municipality in the Kaiserslautern district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Otterbach-Otterberg .

geography

Sulzbachtal is twelve kilometers north of Kaiserslautern on the Lauter .

The districts of the community are Obersulzbach and Untersulzbach . The Hirschhorner Bordenmühle residential area also belongs to Untersulzbach .

history

On January 29, 1379, the current districts were first mentioned in a deed of Veldenz as Obersulzbach and Untersulzbach . They belonged to the Electoral Palatinate until the French Revolution . Michael Frey describes the population development as follows: While in 1600 just ten families were named as residents, in 1802 there were already 376 inhabitants. The Brambach desert lies within the district . In earlier times this was an old farm belonging to the Benedictine abbey in Offenbach am Glan.

On June 7, 1969, the community Sulzbachtal was formed from the previously independent communities Obersulzbach (131 inhabitants at the time) and Untersulzbach (275 inhabitants).

In 2012, 62.7 percent of the population were Protestant and 13.3 percent Catholic . The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational . The Catholics belong to the Diocese of Speyer , the Evangelicals to the Protestant Church of the Palatinate .

Municipal council

The council in Sulzbachtal consists of eight council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

The local mayor of Sulzbachtal is Ero Zinßmeister (FWG). In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was re-elected with 81.90% of the vote.
