Krickenbach is a municipality in the Kaiserslautern district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Landstuhl Association , within which it is the fifth smallest local community in terms of population.

Krickenbach is located in the Middle Palatinate Forest . The residential areas Ameisenhof, Bohlenhof, Erkelshäuserhof and Schweinstal also belong to the local community . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Queidersbach , Kaiserslautern , Stelzenberg , Schopp and Linden .

Waters

The moss ointment forms the eastern boundary of the district. From the right it takes on the Engtalbach , which rises in the center of Krickenbach and flows to the southwest. Further north, the moss ointment also picks up the Schweinsbach from the right.

history

Krickenbach was first mentioned in a document on March 25, 1347, when Siegfried Zeitloss, a merchant, donated a chaplaincy at the altar of St. Nicholas to the church of the Commandery Einsiedel of the Teutonic Order .

Until the end of the 18th century, the village of Krickenbach belonged to the so-called Grand Court of the Landstuhl Lordship , which was owned by the Barons von Sickingen of the Hohenburg line.

In 1794 the left bank of the Rhine was occupied in the First Coalition War. From 1798 to 1814 Krickenbach belonged to the canton of Kaiserslautern in the Donnersberg department and was subordinate to Mairie Trippstadt .

Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna , the area first came to Austria in June 1815 and was ceded to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 on the basis of a state treaty . Under the Bavarian administration, Krickenbach belonged to the Land Commissioner of Kaiserslautern in the Rhine District from 1817, and to the Kaiserslautern District Office from 1862.

The community has been part of the Kaiserslautern district since 1939 . After the Second World War , Krickenbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the administrative district of Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , the place was incorporated into the newly created community of Kaiserslautern-Süd in 1972 . On July 1, 2019, Krickenbach moved to the Landstuhl Association .

In Homburg in Saarland there is a residential area that is unofficially called Neukrickenbach . The quarter was created in 1922 by the settlement of railway workers, who had mainly moved from Krickenbach. With the onset of building construction around 1928, the quarter was opened up. The streets of the district were named after musicians, as the local residents cultivated the musical tradition from their hometown.

At the end of 2014, 42.0 percent of the population were Catholic and 39.7 percent Protestant. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational. The Catholics belong to the Diocese of Speyer , the Evangelicals to the Protestant Church of the Palatinate .

Uwe Vatter (FWG) has been the local mayor of Krickenbach since 2015. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was re-elected with 78.75 percent of the vote. His predecessor in office was Bernd Gemba (WZK), who was in office from 2009. Before that, Udo Seibert (SPD) held the office.

Krickenbach is located on a hiking trail that is marked with a green-yellow bar and that runs from Kirchheimbolanden to Hirschthal . The Schweinstal Sculpture Trail was created from 1986 onwards with several international sculpture symposia . It is also part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Sculpture Trail . In addition, the water hiking trail on the Moosalbe runs over the municipal marker .
