Erzenhausen is a municipality in the Kaiserslautern district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Weilerbach , within which it is the third smallest local community in terms of population.

Erzenhausen is located 13 kilometers northwest of Kaiserslautern in the North Palatinate Uplands in its sub-area Upper Lauterhöhen . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Rothselberg , Frankelbach , Sulzbachtal , Eulenbis , Weilerbach , Schwedelbach and Kollweiler . the soils in the municipality are very rich in ore .

Elevations and waters

In the north is the 452.4 meter high Perlenberg . In the northeast of the district on the border with Eulenbis the 422 meter high owl head extends . The Rischbach forms the boundary to Weilerbach in the south. From the left it takes up the Saubach, which flows through the middle of the settlement area.

Erzenhausen was first mentioned in 1445 in the property register of the Otterberg monastery as Atzenhauser Hof or Erzenhußen, which was owned by the monastery.

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Erzenhausen was incorporated into the canton of Kaiserslautern and was subordinate to the Mairie Weilerbach . In 1815 the place had 386 inhabitants. In the same year it was added to Austria . Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . Then Erzenhausen moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria. From 1818 to 1862 he was a member of the Land Commissioner in Kaiserslautern ; from this the district office of Kaiserslautern emerged.

From 1939 he was part of the Kaiserslautern district . After the Second World War , Erzenhausen became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place became part of the newly formed community of Weilerbach in 1972 .

The Magerwiesen nature reserve on the Eulenkopf extends within the municipal marker . There is also a natural monument with a stalactite cave in the north of the municipality .

The village festival takes place every last weekend in June. At the end of August, the Kerwe takes place regularly in the community.
