Canton of Benfeld
The Canton Benfeld was 2015 a French constituency in the Arrondissement Erstein in the Bas-Rhin in the region Alsace .
history
The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "District of Benfeld". After that he belonged to the newly founded "Schlestadt District".
With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the Barr arrondissement. On February 10, 1806, the Barr arrondissement became the Schlestadt arrondissement.
From 1871 to 1919 there was no further subdivision of what was then the “District of Schlettstadt” (French formerly: Schlestadt).
On June 28, 1919, the canton again became part of the Arrondissement of Sélestat, which was merged with the Arrondissement of Erstein to form the Arrondissement of Sélestat-Erstein on May 24, 1974 .
On March 22, 2015, the canton was dissolved. All municipalities now belong to the canton of Erstein .
geography
The canton bordered the cantons Obernai and Erstein to the north, Germany with the Ortenaukreis in the administrative district of Freiburg ( Baden-Württemberg ) to the east, the cantons Marckolsheim and Sélestat to the south and the canton Barr to the west .
