Canton of Marckolsheim

The Canton Marckolsheim was 2015 a French constituency in the Arrondissement Erstein , in Bas-Rhin region and in the region of Alsace .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "District of Benfeld". Some time later it belonged to the newly founded "Schlestadt District".

With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the Barr arrondissement. On February 10, 1806, the Barr arrondissement became the Schlestadt arrondissement.

From 1871 to 1919 there was no further subdivision of what was then the “District of Schlettstadt” (French formerly: Schlestadt).

On June 28, 1919, the canton again became part of the Sélestat arrondissement, which was merged with the Erstein arrondissement to form the Sélestat-Erstein arrondissement on May 24, 1974 .

On March 22, 2015, the canton was dissolved. With one exception, the municipalities now belong to the canton of Sélestat .

geography

The canton bordered on the north with the canton of Benfeld , in the east on Germany with the Ortenaukreis and the district Emmendingen in the administrative region of Freiburg ( Baden-Württemberg ), in the south on the canton Andolsheim in the arrondissement of Colmar in the department of Haut-Rhin , in the southwest on the canton Ribeauvillé in the arrondissement Ribeauvillé , also in the department Haut-Rhin and in the northwest to the canton Sélestat .
