The canton of Sarre-Union was a French constituency in the Arrondissement Saverne in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region until 2015 ( Alsace until 2015 ).

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the Strasbourg district. Originally, the Canton included the territories of the county Saarwerden , the rule Diemeringen , the county Lützelstein and the rule Assweiler . On June 16, 1794, the Lorraine town of Bockenheim (French Bouquenom) was assigned to the Sarre-Union district. With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Saverne. From 1871 to 1919 there was no further subdivision of the former district of Zabern (French: Saverne ). On June 28, 1919, the canton again became part of the Saverne arrondissement. On March 22, 2015, the canton was dissolved. All municipalities now belong to the canton of Ingwiller .

The canton bordered in the northwest, north and northeast on the cantons Sarralbe , Sarreguemines-Campagne and Rohrbach-lès-Bitche in the arrondissement Sarreguemines in the department of Moselle ( Lorraine ), in the southeast on the canton Drulingen , in the south on the canton Fénétrange in the arrondissement Sarrebourg in Department of Moselle (Lorraine) and in the southwest to the canton of Albestroff in the arrondissement of Château-Salins , also in the department of Moselle.
