The canton of Marmoutier was a French constituency in the Arrondissement Saverne in the Bas-Rhin department in the Alsace region until 2015 .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "Strasbourg district". Some time later (?) He belonged to the newly founded "District Sarre-Union". With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Saverne. From 1871 to 1919 there was no further subdivision of the "Zabern District" (French: Saverne). On June 28, 1919, the canton again became part of the Saverne arrondissement. On March 22, 2015, the canton was dissolved. All municipalities now belong to the canton of Saverne.

The canton bordered in the north on the canton Saverne , in the east on the canton Truchtersheim in the arrondissement Strasbourg-Campagne , in the south on the canton Wasselonne in the arrondissement Molsheim and in the west on the canton Phalsbourg in the arrondissement Sarrebourg in the department Moselle ( Lorraine ).
