The Canton hall was until 2015 a French constituency in Arrondissement of Molsheim in the Bas-Rhin in the region Alsace .

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "Schlettstadt District".

In 1795 the canton was assigned to the Département Vosges and the "District of Saint-Dié".

With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Saint-Dié.

Since May 18, 1871, about half of the territory of this canton was ceded to the German Reich due to the Peace of Frankfurt . The 6 municipalities affected, like the entire canton of Schirmeck, came to the "District of Molsheim" and thus again to the "District of Lower Alsace". Until 1919 there was no further administrative subdivision of the Molsheim district. The municipalities of the former canton Saales, however, continued to form together with the municipalities of the canton Schirmeck, initially the common district of a peace court and since 1879 the district court of Schirmeck.

On June 28, 1919, the canton became part of the newly founded arrondissement of Molsheim.

On March 22, 2015, the canton was dissolved. All municipalities now belong to the canton of Mutzig .

The canton bordered on the north on the canton Schirmeck , on the east on the canton Villé in the arrondissement Sélestat-Erstein and on the south and west on the cantons Provenchères-sur-Fave and Senones in the arrondissement Saint-Dié-des-Vosges in the department Vosges ( Lorraine ).
