Wasselonne Canton
The Canton Wasselonne was 2015 a French Wasselonne in Arrondissement of Molsheim in the Bas-Rhin in the region Alsace .
history
The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "Strasbourg District". With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Strasbourg. From 1871 to 1919 there was no further subdivision of what was then the "District of Molsheim". On June 28, 1919, the canton became part of the newly founded arrondissement of Molsheim. On March 22, 2015, the canton was dissolved.

The canton bordered in the north on the canton Marmoutier in the arrondissement Saverne , in the east on the canton Truchtersheim in the arrondissement Strasbourg-Campagne , in the south on the canton Molsheim and in the west on the canton Phalsbourg in the arrondissement Sarrebourg in the department Moselle ( Lorraine ).

Ten municipalities had a higher population density than the average in the canton, including the main town (with 370.8 inhabitants per km²) and Scharrachbergheim-Irmstett (380.1). The least populated were Cosswiller , Wangenbourg-Engenthal , Balbronn and Westhoffen . In 2009 the population density of these four municipalities was less than 100 inhabitants per km². The cheek-Engenthal located at the westernmost was with 31.52 square kilometers, the area nmäßig largest municipality in the canton.
