Canton of Geispolsheim
The Canton Geispolsheim was 2015 a French constituency in the Arrondissement Strasbourg-Campagne in Bas-Rhin department in the region of Alsace .
history
The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "Strasbourg district". With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the arrondissement of Strasbourg. In the course of the administrative organization of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine, the canton Geispolsheim came from the arrondissement of Strasbourg in 1872 to the new district of Erstein. When the French authorities were re-established in Alsace, the district of Erstein became the Arrondissement d'Erstein without changing its territorial layout. In the course of the administrative reform of 1973/1974, the arrondissements of Erstein and Schlettstadt were merged, but the canton of Geispolsheim was now incorporated into the arrondissement of Strasbourg-Campagne, while the north-eastern part of the canton was split off and constituted as the new canton of Illkirch-Graffenstaden. The canton was dissolved on March 22, 2015; With the exception of the municipality of Duppigheim, which was reclassified into the arrondissement of Molsheim, all remaining municipalities of the canton of Geispolsheim were combined with the new arrondissement of Strasbourg and the new canton of Lingolsheim .
