Attractions
- The Saint-Léger church dates from 1768. The tower on the choir replaced a roof turret on the nave in 1870 . The church is a simultaneous church , which means that both large Christian churches use the building; the choir belongs to the Catholic community, the nave to the Protestants. The church is inscribed on the French Heritage Inventory.
- The castle Château de Kolbsheim was built at the beginning of the 18th century by the Strasbourg noble family Müllenheim (Rechberg line) and is located directly next to the church; Since 2006 it has been under monument protection as Monument historique .
- Several half-timbered houses characterize the townscape and are also registered in the inventory of French cultural heritage.
- The former synagogue dates back to the 17th century and was rebuilt in 1843. It testifies to the existence of a larger Jewish community up to the Second World War . In 1865, of the 585 inhabitants, 103 were Catholics, 358 Lutherans and 124 Jews. Today the building is a residential building after renovation in 1988/89.
Community partnerships
In 1993 Kolbsheim entered into a partnership with the German Nohra , a district of Grammetal in Thuringia.
Personalities
Two women who worked in the early days of the anthroposophical movement were born in Kolbsheim:
- Elisabeth von Grunelius (1895–1989) is considered to be the “original kindergarten teacher” of Waldorf education
- Helene von Grunelius (1897–1936) was a German anthroposophical doctor.
The two sisters come from a theosopically minded family with many children who lived in the castle in Kolbsheim at the time.
