history

middle Ages

The oldest surviving mention of Hangenbieten (as: Hangendebuthenheim ) comes from 1256. Hangenbieten belonged to the Lichtenberg lordship and was formally assigned to the Wolfisheim office, as it was passed on as a fief to the Beger von Geispolsheim . The Schaeffolsheim, Bittenheim and Hohenstein families are later named as fief takers. A mill belonged to the village. It was an allod and had been part of the rule since at least the 13th century.

In 1262 the village was burned down due to a conflict between the citizens of Strasbourg and their bishop Walter von Hohen-Geroldseck .

In the period that followed, the Wolfisheim office - and with it also feudal lordship over Hangenbieten - came to the County of Hanau-Lichtenberg in 1480 .

Modern times

In 1594 twelve farms burned down after a resident accidentally shot his arquebus into a thatched roof .

In October 1674, Hangenbieten was sacked and destroyed on the occasion of the Battle of Entzheim between French troops under the command of Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, vicomte de Turenne and the German troops of the Holy Roman Empire . With the reunion policy of France under King Louis XIV , Hangenbieten came under French suzerainty.

After the death of the last Hanau count, Johann Reinhard III. In 1736, the inheritance - and with it the Wolfisheim office - passed to the son of his only daughter Charlotte von Hanau-Lichtenberg , Landgrave Ludwig (IX.) Von Hessen-Darmstadt . During this time it is also mentioned as part of the Wolfisheim office. In 1778 there were 28 Protestant and 14 Catholic families in Hangenbieten .

With the upheaval that began with the French Revolution , hillside bidding became French.
