A cavalcade (from Italian cavallo 'horse' and cavalcata = 'cavalcade', 'ride'; French and English cavalcade ) describes a solemn procession of riders.

In particular, the procession of the newly crowned Pope to the Lateran Basilica was designated as such.

Similarly, other processions , such as people or cars, are referred to as cavalcades. The musical form of movement , also known as the cavalcade , is originally derived from the music accompanying traditional processions.
