history

The municipalities of this canton were all part of the canton Geispolsheim until 1973. On the occasion of the cantonal territorial reform, which came into force on March 22, 2015, the municipality of Eschau was added from the now dissolved canton Geispolsheim .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the three municipalities Illkirch-Graffenstaden , Lingolsheim and Ostwald belonged to the canton Illkirch-Graffenstaden . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​35.01 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 6742.
