Domfessel is a French commune with 286 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in Alsace in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace).

The Eichel River leaves the Northern Vosges Nature Park near Domfessel .

history

Around 1300 the place was called Dunnvaszel . Other names were Donnebassel , Dunesasseln and Donnevasle in the 15th century. Domfessel belonged to the county of Saar Werden . In the late 18th century, excavations took place under the direction of Pastor Ringel. Ruins of a Roman villa were discovered and dated to the 1st century. The diameter was estimated at 300 m.

St. Gallus Church

The village's Evangelical Church dates back to the 14th century as a former fortified church and is a listed building as a monument historique .
