Adamswiller (German Adamsweiler , Alemannic Àdàmswiller ) is a French commune with 377 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). The street village is on the edge of the Northern Vosges nature park .

history

Adamswiller is first handed down as Villa Adimartia in 777. Other spellings were: Atamano Villa in 1120 and Adelmanneswilre in 1201. The village belonged to the Abbey of St. Denis, then to the Marmoutier Monastery and finally to the Neubourg Monastery .

The Reformation was introduced in 1556. After the destruction in the Thirty Years War , the place was depopulated for a few years.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Adamswiller belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Zabern district in the Lower Alsace district .

Until the reorganization of the cantons in 2015, the municipality belonged to the now dissolved canton of Drulingen . Then he was assigned to the newly created canton of Ingwiller .
