Friedolsheim ( Alsatian "Freedelse") is a French commune with 235 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). On January 1, 2015, the Alsatian community moved from the Arrondissement Strasbourg-Campagne to the Arrondissement Saverne .

Friedolsheim is located in northeast France in the Kochersberg, 27 kilometers northwest of Strasbourg . Neighboring communities of Friedolsheim are Littenheim in the north, Saessolsheim in the northeast, Landersheim in the southeast, Maennolsheim in the southwest, Wolschheim in the west and Altenheim in the northwest.

history

During archaeological excavations, remains of a road from the 2nd century have been found. The first written record dates from the year 770 - at that time the Fulda Abbey owned land there . In 826 the village was called "Friedesheim" and was one of the county villages. Friedesheim was administered jointly by the Bishop of Strasbourg and the Emperor. They were responsible for one half each. In 1496 the city of Strasbourg bought half of the emperor. Friedolsheim has been an independent municipality since 1803. A noble family "von Friedolsheim" is mentioned in 1374. The "von Friedolsheim" were feudal people of the lords of Ettendorf, who were wealthy in Friedolsheim. In terms of church, Friedolsheim was a branch of the Männolsheim parish. Chaplaincy since 1343.
