Tieffenbach is a French commune with 261 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region ( Alsace until 2015 ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Saverne and the Canton of Ingwiller .
geography
The village of Tieffenbach is 250 meters above sea level in the northern Vosges , in a narrow section of the Eichel valley , 4 kilometers west of the Col de Puberg . The community is part of the Palatinate Forest-Vosges du Nord biosphere reserve .
Neighboring communities are Weislingen in the north, Frohmuhl in the northeast, Struth in the southeast, Asswiller and Durstel in the southwest and Waldhambach in the northwest.
Communications
The Tieffenbach-Struth station is located in the village on the Strasbourg - Saargemünd - Saarbrücken railway line . Regional trains and buses stop there.
history
- Tieffenbach is mentioned as early as 718, when the village was offered to the Weißenburg monastery .
- In 1299 the village became part of the County of Petite-Pierre / Lützelstein .
- The Reformation was introduced around 1560.
- From 1734 to 1771 there was a forge in Tieffenbach, where iron from a mine between Volksberg and Weislingen was processed.
- From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Tieffenbach belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Zabern in the district of Lower Alsace .
- The Saargemünd - Mommenheim railway line was opened in 1895.
