Baerendorf (German Bärendorf ) is a French commune with 302 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the canton of Ingwiller in the Arrondissement of Saverne .
geography
Baerendorf is located in Crooked Alsace and borders the municipality of Postroff in the north . The other neighboring communities in clockwise direction are Eschwiller in the northeast, Hirschland in the east, Rauwiller in the southeast, Gœrlingen in the south and Kirrberg in the west.
The village lies between Sarrebourg and Sarre-Union and is about ten kilometers away from both. The Isch , a right tributary of the Saar , flows around it first in a south-north, then in an east-west direction . Downhill, west of the village, the Brueschbach flows into the Isch from the left .
history
Baerendorf was first mentioned in 712 in a document from the Weißenburg monastery . It belonged to the County of Saar Werden , then to the Dominion Finstingen , to the Duchy of Lorraine and finally to the County of Nassau-Saarbrücken and came to France in 1793. From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Baerendorf belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Zabern district in the Lower Alsace district .
The village was badly damaged during the Second World War in autumn 1944 and the parish church was almost completely destroyed in 1774. It was rebuilt from 1955.
