history
The rule of Diemeringen belonged to the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , which the Lords of Finstingen enfeoffed with. In 1421 Heinrich von Finstingen pledged half of the rule (castle, outer bailey and town of Diemeringen, Dehlingen , Butten , Völlerdingen and Weyer (near Rahlingen )) for 4,000 guilders to Count Philip I of Nassau-Saarbrücken (around 1368-1429).
The rule was divided by inheritance at the end of the 15th century between the Rhine County (as Count of Salm ) and the County of Moers - Saar Werden. Around 1560, the Rhine Count Philipp Franz von Dhaun and Salm-Neuviller (1518–1561) and his son Friedrich I von Dhaun and Salm-Neuviller (1547–1608) introduced the Reformation.
The region was devastated during the wars of the 17th century.
Witch trials in the early modern period
According to the records of Pastor Johann Andreas Keifflin (1638–1709) in the church register, at least twelve women and five men were executed for witchcraft between 1671 and 1673 in the Diemeringen rule , and one accused woman died in prison.
Modern times
In the eighteenth century, rule was divided between the Principality of Salm-Salm , the Wild and Rhine Counts of Dhaun-Grumbach , Dhaun-Kyrburg and vom Stein .
In 1793 Diemeringen, which had previously been an exclave of the Holy Roman Empire, became part of the French Republic . From 1871 until the end of the First World War , it belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Zabern district in the Lower Alsace district .
