Rexingen is a French commune with 203 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ).

geography

Rexingen is located between Berg in the west and Adamswiller in the east, 21 kilometers northeast of Sarrebourg and 55 kilometers northwest of Strasbourg in the crooked Alsace .

history

In 1674 the village was partially destroyed during the Dutch War (1672–1679) by the troops of Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, vicomte de Turenne (1611–1675).

Until the French Revolution (1789–1799) Rexingen belonged to the County of Saar Werden . From 1871 until the end of the First World War , it belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Zabern district in the Lower Alsace district .

Attractions

The mayor's school was built in 1885 according to the plan of the architect Heinrich Hannig from Saverne . Rexingen train station was built towards the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century. It has been closed and is now used as a house. The Protestant church was built in 1885. It is oriented towards east-west. Its nave is illuminated by four tall windows. In the church there is an organ by Dalstein & Haerpfer, which was constructed in 1914. It was modernized in 1960 by the organ manufacturer Schwenkedel.
