The acorn is an approximately 32.4 km long right tributary of the Saar in the area of Crooked Alsace , which belongs to the French department of Bas-Rhin in the Grand Est region.

geography

course

The acorn rises as Donnenbach at about 320 m altitude near Lützelstein on the western edge of the Northern Vosges on the watershed between Saar and Rhine . From Frohmuhl , the Départementalstrasse D 919 Saargemünd - Hagenau and the Strasbourg –Saargemünd railway line follow their course to the west. At Tieffenbach , the acorn enters more agricultural areas. The Grentzbach flows south of Waldhambach from the right and comes from the Münzthal area. The acorn then flows with a tendency to the northwest to Diemeringen . Here the Petersbach flows from the right , which rises near Rohrbach . The next place is Lorentzen . At Domfessel he leaves the area of the Northern Vosges Nature Park. Voellerdingen and Oermingen are the next localities. According to this, the acorn is the border of the Crooked Alsace with the Bitscher Land and thus with the Moselle department . It flows into the Herbitzheim and Kalhausen districts from the right into the Saar , shortly after it has passed under the tracks of the Saargemünd - Sarralbe railway line .

Hydrology

At the confluence of the acorn in the Saar , the mean flow rate (MQ) is 3.08 m³ / s; its catchment area here reaches 288.5 km².

For the Eichel level in Oermingen a little above the mouth, where the catchment area covers around 277 km², data is available for a period of 43 years (1968–2010) from which the annual flow rate and its annual average were calculated .

The highest water levels of 4.50 - 5.45 m³ / s then occur in the winter months of December - March with a clear maximum of the runoff in February. Its minimum, less pronounced compared to the three previous months from June, falls in September at 1.43 m³ / s. The water level changes monotonously between the two extreme months. The average runoff over the entire year is 2.96 m³ / s at the water level.

The monthly mean discharge (MQ) of the Eichel in m³ / s, calculated for the hydrological station Oermingen from the water level data for the years 1968–2010
