history

Local history

The knights and lords of Schallodenbach probably date from the 12th century. In 1202 the place was first mentioned in connection with the Schallodenbach Castle . The owner was the knight Johann von Odenbach. Later the Schallodenbach rule came into the possession of the Sickinger family . Franz Konrad, the only surviving son of the Reich Knight Franz von Sickingen inherited all the property. From 1670 to 1697, Schallodenbach and his rulership of the same name were part of the French Province de la Sarre .

Since 1659, Schallodenbach Castle was no longer the residence of the owner and was inhabited by a bailiff. The hunter's house was near the castle, next to the Meierhof. The hereditary forestry in the Sicking Forest Service was looked after for a long time by the Stadtmüller family of foresters. This once stately property fell into disrepair. In 1804, under French rule, the Sicking property at Schallodenbach was auctioned off. The new owners were not interested in maintaining the castle complex. It was used as a quarry to get money. So the castle fell into ruin.

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Schallodenbach was incorporated into the canton of Otterberg . In 1815 the municipality first belonged to Austria . A year later she moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 she belonged to the Land Commissioner in Kaiserslautern ; from this the district office of Kaiserslautern emerged.

From 1939 the place was part of the district of Kaiserslautern . After the Second World War , Heiligenmoschel became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , Schallodenbach was incorporated into the newly formed Otterberg Association . Since July 1, 2014, it has been part of the Otterbach-Otterberg Association, which was created through the merger of the Otterberg and Otterbach Association .

Surname

The name Schallodenbach refers to the Niederungsburg around which the village developed. To distinguish the village name Odenbach am Glan with the associated Niederungsburg, the place and the castle near the source in the upper Odenbachtal have been called "Schelodenbach" since the second half of the 14th century . According to Theodor Zink , the part of the name “Schel” probably comes from Middle High German schelch, schel = crooked, oblique, that is, the hanging village of Odenbach, located between slopes.

The place name was listed in documents and writings in different versions: Odenbach (1202; 1252; 1334); Hodenbach (1269); Odinbach (1329); Schele-Odinbach (1368); Schel (e) odenbach (1393); Schelodenbach (1493; 1589/90; 1609; 1641); Schalodenbach (1804; 1837); Schallodenbach (1828)
