The cherry pit is nearly one kilometer long right tributary of Odenbaches in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Kaiserslautern in the area of the municipality Otterbach Otter Mountain belong to local community Schallodenbach .

The Kirschgraben rises in the Untere Lauterhöhen natural area of the North Palatinate Uplands a good 100 meters northeast of the Schallodenbach residential area Wickelhof at an altitude of 379  m above sea level. NHN in the same corridor on the south side of the Reiser mountain ( 460  m ) and in the protected natural habitat source Bach small wood complex O Wickelhof .

It initially flows just under 50 meters east of the hamlet in a southerly direction in the Unterer Wickelwald corridor through thick wood, then turns south-southwest in the Hinter den Gärten corridor and then runs through a strip of grassland in the Wickelwiesen corridor .

It is now leaving the biotope and finally flows into the Odenbach, coming from the east-southeast, almost 40 meters west of the municipality boundary to Schneckenhausen at an altitude of 313  m .

nature and environment

The densely wooded Kerbtal valley of the Kirschgraben belongs to the well-worthy of protection source brook small wood complex O Wickelhof (area number: BK-6412-0259-2009). The biotope is 6.7 hectares in total.

The brook forms a 5 m deep notch valley overgrown with alders and ash trees on the upper course , which then widens east of the Wickelhof to a 10 - 60 m wide box valley . In the lower reaches the brook then runs through a meadow with tree hedges rich in fruit trees and orchards. Within the agricultural zone around Schallodenbach, the valley is a near-natural biotope of local importance with valuable plant species. So thrive in the area of alder-ash forest in the herbaceous layer , the garlic mustard , which Arum maculatum and the lesser celandine and in the shrub layer of the growing Curved Hawthorn and Elderberry .

In the areas with hedge vegetation, the garlic mustard , the burdock bedstraw , the forest ziest , the nettle , the common carnation , the stinkhorn, the grape brine and the celandine grow as bushes there and blackthorn , ivy , blue-red dogwood and thrive Black elder and on trees grow the pedunculate oak , the pear and the garden apple tree , the hornbeam, the trembling aspen and the sweet cherry . In the woods live orioles and green and small woodpeckers , and Iltise and stone marten .
