The castle Schallodenbach is an Outbound castle in the municipality Schallodenbach in Castle Road 4 in the district of Kaiserslautern in Rhineland-Palatinate . It gave its name and was originally the seat of the Schallodenbach rulership .

history

The local castle was built around 1200 by the Lords of Odenbach and mentioned in 1202 in the possession of the knight Johann von Odenbach. The castle was expanded in 1340 and converted into a palace between 1530 and 1550 . The castle was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and demolished as a quarry in 1804 . In a description from 1837 it was noted that “two years ago” a huge tower rose up, “at the foot of which you can see the remains of the castle walls”.

The remains of the former castle are built into houses.

Lordship of Schallodenbach

The Schallodenbach lordship comprised the villages of Schallodenbach , Schneckenhausen , Wörsbach and Heimkirchen . Before the French revolutionary troops took possession of it at the end of the 18th century, it belonged to the Counts of Sickingen .
