history

Protestant bell tower Wörsbach

The place was of no importance until the Middle Ages , even if indications of a settlement on the basis of some barrows , probably from the Iron Age , in the west and south of the place cannot be excluded. Isolated finds of Roman coins suggest a possible traffic route in late Roman times, probably in the direction of the Heidenburg in today's neighboring town .

One of the earliest mentions of the place can be found in a decree from 1344, in which the village was transferred from the Lords of Randeck to their liege, the wild count Friedrich von Kyrburg.

In the course of the following centuries the area of the Schallodenbach rulership with the village of the same name and the places Heimkirchen, Schneckenhausen, Wörsbach and Heiligenmoschel was administered by the Lords of Odenbach. At the beginning of the 17th century it was bought and married to the Lords of Sickingen , with whom it remained until the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century.

The place was and is predominantly Protestant. Therefore, in 1902, on the initiative of the citizens, a bell tower made of sandstone blocks was built in the town center .

In 1939 the place had a total of 380 inhabitants. Today that number is just under 300.

On June 7, 1969, the previously independent communities Heimkirchen, Morbach, Niederkirchen and Wörsbach became the new local community of Niederkirchen.
