Heidenburg (Kreimbach-Kaulbach)
The Heidenburg is a former Roman mountain fort . It is located in the Heidenburger forest on the summit of 392.3 m above sea level. NHN high "Kreimbergs" above the local community Kreimbach-Kaulbach an der Lauter in the district of Kusel in Rhineland-Palatinate .
Fort
Around 400 BC Chr. Built Celts a refuge castle with rampart and 260 n. Chr. It was a Roman fort mountain as a protective wall against the Alemanni , that by ceramic finds a use until the 5th century suggest.
Excavations began in 1890, and Roman spoils were turned into a lookout tower , the approx. 4 m high Heidenburgwarte.
Remnants of the wall of the ring wall and the observation tower built later are still preserved from the former fortification.
