history

Around 1340 Odenbach Castle was rebuilt or expanded by Knight Baldemar von Odenbach . According to a document dated September 26, 1341, Baldemar handed over the castle and rule to Archbishop Baldwin of Trier and at the same time took it over as an electoral inheritance . As a result, various branches of the family were fiefs until after the death of Philipp von Guntheim, his widow married Schweikhard von Sickingen , son of Franz von Sickingen , and in 1525 brought the rule to the family of the Barons von Sickingen .

After 1792 the region was occupied by French troops during the First Revolutionary War. From 1798 to 1814 the area belonged to the French department of Donnersberg and was assigned to the canton of Otterberg . In 1816 Region became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria .
