The monolith of Stelzenberg-Breitenau (also known as Hinkelstein ) is a possible menhir near Breitenau , a hamlet belonging to Stelzenberg in the Kaiserslautern district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
location
The stone is located in the Palatinate Forest , about 400 m south of Breitenau, but the location is in the municipality of Krickenbach . State road 502 runs about 150 m to the west.
description
The monolith is made of red sandstone . It has a height of 180 cm and a width of 65 cm; the depth is 60 cm at the foot and 30 cm at the top. The lower part of the stone is irregularly shaped, tapers towards the top, then becomes plate-shaped and ends in a sloping point. There are numerous other stones of various sizes around it. It is unclear whether it is a real menhir.
