Franz von Sickingen , a well-known representative of the noble family von Sickingen

The Landstuhl rule was a knightly territory of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation in what is now Rhineland-Palatinate . From the 16th to the 18th century in the fief of the Lords of Sickingen , it fell to France in 1801 with the left bank of the Rhine and in 1816 it became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria .

history

Split off from the empire around Kaiserslautern , the possession of the castle and dominion of Landstuhl was split up in the late Middle Ages. In 1518 Franz von Sickingen managed to get all shares in the castle and rule Landstuhl from the various owners as a fief. In 1518 this included 1/4 as pledge from the County of Sponheim , 1/4 as a fief from the County of Sponheim, 1/6 as a fief from Pfalz-Zweibrücken , 1/6 as a fief from Zweibrücken-Bitsch and 1/6 as a fief from Nassau-Saarbrücken . Due to the war, the lordship of Landstuhl came temporarily to Electoral Palatinate from 1523–43 , temporarily to France from 1680–97 , but remained fiefdoms of the descendants of Franz von Sickingen. In 1680 the rule was divided under the lines Sickingen-Hohenburg and Sickingen-Sickingen, whereby Burg and Flecken Landstuhl remained condominium of both lines. In 1801, rule with the Left Bank of the Rhine fell to France.

scope

In the 18th century, the Landstuhl dominion comprised the Nanstein Castle and the Landstuhl Patch as a condominium , the major court owned by the Sickingen-Hohenburg line and the small court owned by the Sickingen-Sickingen line.

The places of Bann , Harsberg , Hermersberg , Horbach , Kindsbach , Krickenbach , Linden , Queidersbach , Weselberg and Zeselberg belonged to the main court .

The small courts included the places Gerhardsbrunn , Hauptstuhl , Kirchenarnbach , Knopp , Langwieden , Martinshöhe , Mittelbrunn , Mühlbach (since 1938 part of Bruchmühlbach ), Oberarnbach , Obernheim , Scharrhof and Schauerberg .
