Erdesbach is a municipality in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Kusel-Altenglan .
geography
The place is in the Kuseler Musikantenland in the West Palatinate on the Glan . To the north is Ulmet , south Bedesbach .
history
The village was first mentioned in 1364 as Ertenspach .
Initially belonging to the county of Veldenz , the place fell to the newly formed county of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , whose further fate Erdesbach shared with the extinction of its male line in 1444 .
Like the other villages in the area, Erdesbach also suffered severe devastation and casualties in the 17th century, especially from the Thirty Years' War . After the war it was considered to be almost completely extinct, and new families began to immigrate. Further wars, such as the War of the Palatinate Succession , brought new setbacks. It was not until the 18th century that the population began to grow steadily.
From 1801 to 1814 Erdesbach belonged to France as part of the Saardepartement , Arrondissement Birkenfeld , Canton Kusel, Mairie Ulmet. At the Congress of Vienna , the Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine fell to Austria in 1815 and to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 on the basis of an exchange contract . The place was now assigned to the Landkommissariat Kusel , Mayor's Office Ulmet, in the Bavarian Rhine District.
After the Second World War , Erdesbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place was assigned to the Verbandsgemeinde Altenglan in 1972 , which was merged into the Verbandsgemeinde Kusel-Altenglan in 2018 .

coat of arms
Blazon : "Divided by black and blue by a silver wavy bar, above a growing, red-armored, tongued and crowned golden lion, below a silver miter covered with red stones with fluttering ribbons." | |
Justification for the coat of arms: The miter in the coat of arms refers to the earlier belonging to the diocese of Reims . The lion comes from the coat of arms of the Wittelsbach family , the ruling family of Pfalz-Zweibrücken . |
