Rutsweiler am Glan is a municipality in the Kusel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Kusel-Altenglan .

geography

The place is on the Glan at the foot of the Potzberg in the Kuseler Musikantenland in the West Palatinate . To the north is Altenglan , south Theisbergstegen and west is Haschbach am Remigiusberg .

history

Rutsweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1303, when Count Georg von Veldenz gave his consent to the transfer of goods in the area by knight Heinrich von Zweibrücken as Wittum for his wife. First part of the Reichsland , it then belonged to the Counties of Veldenz , Pfalz-Zweibrücken , Pfalz-Veldenz and finally from 1733 to the Electoral Palatinate .

After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the region and annexed it after the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) . From 1798 to 1814 the village belonged to the French department of Donnersberg and was assigned to the canton of Wolfstein . Due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna (1815) and an exchange contract with Austria , the region became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 . From 1818, the municipality of Rutsweiler am Glan was assigned to the Kusel regional commissioner in the Bavarian Rhine district , later to the Kusel district office, from which the Kusel district emerged in 1938 .

From 1853 to 1972 Rutsweiler belonged to the mayor's office of Godelhausen and Theisbergstegen. After the regional reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , Rutsweiler belonged to the Verbandsgemeinde Altenglan since 1972 , which was merged into the Verbandsgemeinde Kusel-Altenglan in 2018.

September 10, 2001 went down in local history as "Kerweschießen". One of the regular blasts in the quarry on the opposite side of the Glans was too strong on Kerwen Monday and exposed the place to a hail of stones . There were no injuries, but window panes, facades, garden fences and even furniture were damaged.

The municipal council in Rutsweiler consists of eight council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

In the direct election on May 26, 2019, Joachim Sander was confirmed in his office as local mayor for another five years with a share of the vote of 75.30%.

Foundation of the coat of arms: The coat of arms combines the history of the village with its earlier economic importance and the location on the densely wooded Potzberg. The imperial orb and lion , both in the Veldenzian colors, reflect the affiliation to the Reichsland and to the various Palatine lines . The striking Potzberg is expressed by the green Dreiberg . The Mercury symbol reminds of the mercury degradation in the district. The coat of arms of the local community Rutsweiler am Glan was approved on September 27, 1978 by the district government of Rheinhessen-Pfalz .

Economy and Infrastructure

The B 423 runs through Rutsweiler . In the southwest is the A 62 . In Altenglan and Theisbergstegen there are stations on the Landstuhl – Kusel railway line .
