Boris Gavrilowitsch Schpitalny
Boris Gavrilovich Schpitalny ( Russian Борис Гаврилович Шпитальный ., Scientific transliteration Boris Gavrilovic Špitalnyj ; born July 25 . Jul / 7. August 1902 greg. In Rostov-on-Don , † 6. February 1972 in Moscow ) was a Soviet weapons designer. He became particularly famous for the development of the SchKAS and SchWAK aircraft weapons .
Life
Schpitalny began his working life in 1919 as a machine helper, but showed exceptional talent and in 1927 went to the Technical University in Moscow . He then moved to the Mechanical Institute , where he was trained as an aircraft designer. Then Schpitalny worked for three years in the scientific center of the NAMI . In 1930, together with IAKomaritzki, he developed the SchKAS machine gun, which was delivered to the army from 1934.
From 1934 to 1953, as chief designer, he headed a special design office that dealt with the development of aircraft weapons. This is also where the widely built SchWAK automatic cannon was built.
In 1940 he was honored as a hero of socialist work for the development of the SchKAS and was promoted to a doctorate in technical sciences, and in 1949 to a professor. From 1953 he headed a chair at the Moscow Institute for Geodesy , Cartography and Aerial Photography .
He was honored twice with the Lenin Prize , the State Prize (1941 and 1942) and other medals. Schpitalny is the author of around 60 papers on his areas of expertise.
