Shvak cannon ( Russian ШВАК ) also MP-20 , is the name for a Soviet machine gun . SchWAK stands for Schpitalnyj-Wladimirow Awiazionnyj Krupnokalibernyj (Шпитальный-Владимиров Авиационный Крупнокалиберный), German roughly for large-caliber aircraft weapon from Schimirpitalovny.
Emergence
It was developed by B. Schpitalny and W. Vladimirov that the operation of SchKAS - machine gun took over. The prototype in the 12.7 × 108 mm R caliber was made in 1932. This version was released for production in 1934, and series production began in 1935. In 1935/36 a variant in the stronger 20 × 99 mm R caliber was created on this basis . The SchWAK was introduced into the air force in 1936, and it passed its first acid test in the Japanese-Soviet border conflict of 1939.
technology
The installation took place rigidly in the wings or in the fuselage of fighter aircraft , later the SchWAK served as defensive armament in bomber planes , whereby it was integrated in movable swivel mountings and provided with a pistol grip.

In World War II , it was used as in the fighter aircraft in many Soviet aircraft Poli Karpov , Lawotschkins and Yakovlev as well as the bombers Petljakows and Tupolews .
